I like being a teacher, I have always wanted to be a teacher. However, back in 2000, when I had already been teaching for almost ten years, I realized that I had to change something in my teaching and my approach to teaching if I wanted to keep up with the same level of enthusiasm and creativity.
The idea of using technology in teaching came naturally. I had already been using computer for many other things, but not for teaching. I didn’t know where to start, so I decided to take up a course. I applied for a beginner’s course at the Net Learning Languages School and despite all the difficulties (lack of technical expertise, bad internet connection), I had a lot of fun. This course opened my eyes and gave me a lot of new ideas.
Then I started implementing this new knowledge to teaching. Everybody enjoyed it – both my students and I. At first, this computer-assisted language learning (CALL) consisted of drill and practice software, educational games and online treasure hunts.
Having gained the basic knowledge and experience, I continued developing my skills. I started browsing the Internet in search of new software, new ideas and new fellow teachers. And one day, I came across – MOODLE. I was sure that it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, the friendship which started with the version 1.1. and lasts until today.
“eLearning doesn’t just “happen”! It requires careful planning and implementation.”
